About the Role
We are currently seeking a Superintendent Tenure for our Western Australia Iron Ore Business. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and experienced tenure management professional who will lead a dedicated team of tenure Specialists to manage WAIO’s expansive tenure portfolio. This is a permanent Perth based position working Mon – Fri. Flexible working conditions will be considered.
Reporting to the Manager Land Access and Approvals, you will be responsible for:
- Tenure Management: ensuring compliance with statutory requirements under the Mining Act, Land Administration Act and BHP’s State Agreements, including payment of rents, submission of expenditure reports, technical reports, renewals, acquisition and surrender of tenure;
- Management of Wardens Court matters: including lodging objections, managing proceedings or engaging legal representation for court appearance, negotiations with other parties to resolve matters including drafting access agreements;
- Risk mitigation: assessing risks associated with WAIO tenure portfolio including in relation to emerging issues and changing legislative framework. Provide advice and recommendation to address any identified risks;
- Strategic planning: evaluating WAIO tenure portfolio, including expansion and growth requirements and providing strategic advice on strategies for long term tenure retention and security;
- Specialised advice: providing specialist tenure advice and due diligence into the broader approvals process and providing strategic input into planned development projects and operational requirements to meet business needs and ensure compliance with tenure obligations;
- Leadership: as team leader you will play an important role in directing and delegating the work of the team and will have the opportunity to coach and mentor team member and engage extensively across the business.
About You
Ideally, you will have strong leadership skills and extensive tenure management experience.
In addition, we are looking for the following specific skills and experience:
- Detailed knowledge of relevant mining, environmental and other key legislation and demonstrated experience in the application of same;
- A passion for building relationships and developing teams;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to concisely report on complex technical issues;
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex tasks and effectively manage competing priorities;
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to deadlines;
- Strong focus on identifying and implementing standards and procedures and commitment to continuous improvement.
